We submit the request

Our team submits the porting request to your current phone provider on your behalf.

Wait 5–10 business days

Your current provider is required by the CRTC to release your number. This typically takes 5–10 business days.

You're ported

Your number moves to Truespeed. Your old service cancels automatically. No calls missed.

You do not need to call or notify Bell/Rogers yourself. Truespeed handles the transfer. You are protected by the CRTC's Local Number Portability rules.

Phone Questions, Answered

Do I need to buy a new phone?

No. Your existing corded or cordless phone will work. We provide an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) that connects between your phone and the internet — it looks like a small power adapter. Just plug your phone into it and you're done. If you want a new phone, we can also recommend SIP-compatible handsets.

Will it work if my internet goes down?

VoIP phone requires a working internet connection. If your internet is down, your phone will not work. For this reason, we recommend that customers who need 911 access during outages keep a cell phone charged. Truespeed's network uptime is 99.9%, but this is something to be aware of.

Can I call 911?

Yes. All Truespeed VoIP lines are registered for 911 service with your municipal address on file. When you call 911, your address is automatically provided to emergency dispatch — just like a traditional landline. It is important to keep your registered address up to date if you move.

How long does number porting take?

Number porting (transferring your existing phone number from Bell, Rogers, or another provider) typically takes 5–10 business days. During this time, your existing phone service continues to work normally. On the port date, your number moves to Truespeed automatically. There is no gap in service and no action required from you.

What is cell phone twinning?

Cell phone twinning is a Premium Phone feature that makes your cell phone ring at the same time as your home phone when someone calls your home number. You can answer on either device — whichever you pick up first, the other stops ringing. It works with any cell phone and any carrier (Rogers, Bell, Fido, etc.).

Can I make international calls?

Yes. International calling is available on both plans at competitive per-minute rates. Calls to the US are typically included in the Canada-wide unlimited rate. For rates to specific countries, call our team at (613) 865-7733 or email websales@truespeed.ca.

Is there a contract for Phone service?

No. Truespeed Phone is month-to-month with no contracts and no early-termination fees. You can add or remove it from your account at any time.

Do I need to already have Truespeed internet?

Yes. Truespeed Phone requires an active Truespeed residential internet plan at the same service address. If you're not yet a Truespeed customer, check your address — our internet plans start at $36.95/mo and can be bundled with Phone from day one.
