Network Management Practices

Network Management Practices

Transparency about how Truespeed manages network traffic, in compliance with the CRTC’s Internet Traffic Management Practices (ITMP) framework.

Overview

Truespeed Internet Services is committed to providing an open and transparent internet experience. This page describes how we manage traffic on our network in accordance with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) guidelines on Internet Traffic Management Practices (ITMPs).

Traffic Management Practices

Truespeed does not engage in deep packet inspection, application-specific throttling, or protocol-based traffic shaping. We believe in delivering the internet speeds you pay for, without interference.

What We Do

  • Fair usage management: During periods of extreme network congestion, we may apply temporary, protocol-agnostic measures to ensure fair bandwidth distribution among all users on the affected segment.
  • Network security: We filter traffic to protect against DDoS attacks, malware propagation, and other security threats at the network edge.
  • Spam filtering: We offer optional email spam filtering for customers using Truespeed email services.

What We Don’t Do

  • We do not throttle or slow down specific applications
  • We do not prioritize traffic from our own services over third-party services
  • We do not engage in paid prioritization arrangements
  • We do not impose data caps or overage fees on any plan
  • We do not inspect the content of your internet traffic

Congestion Management

Truespeed continuously monitors network utilization. When congestion is detected, we address it through capacity upgrades rather than traffic management wherever possible. In rare cases of acute congestion, all traffic is treated equally regardless of source, destination, or application.

Speed and Performance

Advertised speeds represent the maximum speeds available on each plan. Actual speeds may vary based on distance from network node, in-home wiring, Wi-Fi conditions, number of connected devices, and time of day. We recommend using our Speed Test tool to measure your actual connection speeds.

Privacy

Our network management practices respect your privacy. We do not monitor, record, or analyze the content of your internet communications. See our Privacy Policy for details.
